We are artists and we are for democracy. We say no to wannabe kings, dictators, authoritarians, and fascists. We say yes to democratic power to the people.
There are two important ways you can fight for democracy this week.
Join a “No Kings” protest on October 18
Our resistence is non-violent, and we are as joyful to be together as we are angry at authoritarian attacks on our democracy. On Saturday, October 18, Artists 4 Democracy will join with people across America to stand together in joyful peaceful resistance to the Trump administration’s violence and oppression. Find your nearest No Kings event and make a plan to bring your friends and family.
Humor, joy, and creativity throw cold water onto the fear-mongering flames of authoritarianism. Bring your costumes, musical instruments, dance parties, and wit on Saturday. Think of the chorus of kazoos playing the Star Wars Imperial March at law enforcement during recent protests, the mobile truck carrying the Los Jornaleros del Norte band that has become a feature of protests in Los Angeles, and the Portland frogs who have become the unlikely symbol of resistance. Vote YES on Prop 50
This is a break glass in case of emergency moment for democracy and Proposition 50 is part of how we fight back. Texas redrew their voting maps to give the Trump administration five more Republican seats in the US House of Representatives. Voters in California have a chance to cancel out their power grab. We can do this when we all vote YES on Prop 50: the Election Rigging Response Act.
Republicans are raising the price of healthcare, driving up the cost of living with their Trump tariff taxes, terrorizing our communities with their kidnappings and Kavanaugh stops. If Prop 50 passes, there’s a better chance they’ll lose their majority in the House in 2026, which will slow their devastating roll.
Prop 50 redraws California’s congressional districts on an emergency basis. These new lines will be valid for five years, then they revert to being redrawn by independent commission after the 2030 census. Find out more here.
If you live in California, you’ve probably received your mail-in ballot already. Fill out your ballot today, then drop it in the mail or an official vote-by-mail drop box (look up your nearest box). Learn more about where and how to vote and make sure everyone you know is voting Yes on Prop 50 by November 4.
